Five Irish tourism companies attended Succesful Meetings University (SMU) International in New York from March 10 – 12, to promote Ireland as a top destination for business tourism.

Among them was Tourism Ireland, aiming to tap into the lucrative sector as business travellers spend around 2.5 times more than the average holidaymaker.

Alison Metcalfe, head, North America brand, Tourism Ireland, commented, "Events like SMU International are important platforms to continue to build awareness of Ireland and our world-class business tourism offering."

With its participation in SMU, Tourism Ireland, aims to build on the success of 2016, which was the fourth record-breaking year in a row for Irish tourism from North America.
