Latvia’s Central Statistical Bureau revealed that in the first quarter (Q1) of this year 397,400 visitors stayed in Latvian tourist accommodation establishments, marking an 8.6 percent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2016.

During the quarter under review, the number of nights spent by guests rose 6.3 percent to reach 784, 900 while the average duration of stay was two nights.

Most of the 264,300 foreign visitors, up 9.9 percent year-on-year, originated from Russia, Estonia, Lithuania, Germany and the UK. Furthermore, 133,200 Latvian residents were hosted, which is six percent more compared to Q1 in 2016, and the number of domestic nights spent jumped 5.5 percent to 255,000.
