According to Lithuanian Department of Statistics, about 500,000 tourists visited Lithuania during the first quarter of the year (Q1) with at least one overnight stay, indicating a 8.6 percent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2016.

While domestic travellers accounted for 51 percent of holidaymakers, 82 percent of international tourists derived from European countries, while the flow of arrivals from the US increased by 27 percent compared to the same period in 2016.

Vilnius proved to be the most favourite destination with more than half of all tourists choosing an overnight stay in Lithuania's capital.

Indrė Trakimaitė-Šeškuvienė, acting head, Lithuania Tourism Department, revealed that the figures draw an optimistic picture, showing that the country can effectively reduce the seasonality.
