In total, 7.1 million tourists travelled to Vienna marking a 3.1 percent increase. Its top 10 performing markets was headed by Germany visitors with 3.1 million bednights, five percent up; followed by Austria at a largely unchanged 2.8 million bednights; the USA with 893,000, a seven percent increase; the UK largely unchanged at 692,000; and Italy at 666,000, a 10 percent decrease.
Places six to 10 were taken by Spain, China, Russia, Switzerland and France. Strong growth was also reported from South Korea, Australia, Brazil and India.
Net room revenues generated by the hospitality sector up to November 2017, amounted to EUR709.5 million, a seven percent increase.
“We shall be concentrating our priorities for the coming years on sustainable and value-adding growth, internationalisation and even stronger networking of the tourist players in Vienna,” commented Norbert Kettner, director, tourism, Vienna Tourist Board.
