Statistics illustrating accommodation services also show general industry growth, including; local tourism, amounted to 6.6 percent when tourists who were provided with accommodation totalled 2.92 million.
Accommodation establishments were mostly visited by tourists from Belarus (174,900), Germany (171,100), Russia (162,900), Poland (154,600), Latvia (148,000), Ukraine (83,200), the UK (66,400), Estonia (61,700), and Italy (39,900).
Extraordinary growth was demonstrated by tourist flows from the US with 43,000 tourists, 21.9 percent more than 2016.
Virginijus Sinkevicius, minister, economy, Lithuania, remarked, “Growth from priority markets generated about EUR20 million more for local business than the previous year.
It is particularly important that, alongside traditional markets, the number of tourists from Israel [also] grows. A tourist from this country spends, on average, the largest number of days per stay [4.7 days]. For this reason, benefits brought about by such tourists are the most significant.”
