UNWTO and Azerbaijan to Further Strengthen Cooperation

Zurab Pololikashvili, secretary-general, World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), recently met with H.E. Ilham Aliyev, president, Azerbaijan, to discuss the development of the country’s tourism sector and how to further strengthen cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNWTO.

During their meeting several issues were addressed such as the 10th Anniversary of the Baku Process and the 20 percent increase of international arrivals to Azerbaijan during 2017. The UNWTO official highlighted the organisations’ support to Azerbaijan when implementing investment projects, visa facilitation, open skies policy and assistance to the country concerning the areas of innovation and education.

Meanwhile, during his official visit, Pololikashvili also held a meeting with Abulfas Garayev, minister, culture and tourism, Azerbaijan, to discuss overall cooperation opportunities with UNWTO. Pololikashvili also commenced the 17th Azerbaijan International Travel and Tourism Fair, which took place on April 05 – 07, while on his visit to the country.
